Internet Explorer 8 (IE 8) has a "Compatibility View" setting that causes problems with modern web pages. When this setting is turned on, it causes incorrect user interface behavior in Empower in at least these two ways:

When "Freeze WBS/Desc" is enabled, the "frozen" grid columns are duplicated.

When color backgrounds for charts are turned on, some of the left-most area of each color band is not drawn.
Both problems can be fixed by turning "Compatibility View" off, using the steps below:
- Open Tools | Compatibility View Settings.

Uncheck all three boxes at the bottom of the dialog.

Click 'Close'. The browser will automatically refresh the page (or, just restart the browser).
