Internet Explorer 8 (IE 8) has a "Compatibility View" setting that causes problems with modern web pages. When this setting is turned on, it causes incorrect user interface behavior in Empower in at least these two ways:


  1. When "Freeze WBS/Desc" is enabled, the "frozen" grid columns are duplicated.
  2. When color backgrounds for charts are turned on, some of the left-most area of each color band is not drawn.

Both problems can be fixed by turning "Compatibility View" off, using the steps below:

  1. Open Tools | Compatibility View Settings.
  2. Uncheck all three boxes at the bottom of the dialog.
  3. Click 'Close'. The browser will automatically refresh the page (or, just restart the browser).
  4. Done!
